8th January – Susan Cadogan

Most famous for her appearance on Top of the Pops singing the Lee Perry produced Hurt So Good and their version of Fever , Susan Cadogan has also recorded hits with Ruddy Thomas, Mad Professor, recently put out a single with Ken Boothe, Love Story, as well as with the Friendly Fire Band amongst others, always preserving her sweet voice. This is a rare occasion to voice this artist at good rates!

16th January – Peppery

Jamaican born Dancehall artiste Peppery has been releasing both harcore dancehall and reggae songs for years, and his third album, Battlefield, is a roots reggae based album that has already had success with his tune Sipple Out Deh (with Friendly Fire Band), Festival produced by Cut La Vis , and the title track Battlefield has already seen nuff airplay.

2nd February – Raphael

Italian based singer Raphael is back for his yearly visit to the studio with a new album with Californian label Sugar Cane Records, featuring his hit soundsystem tune Joker Soundboy alongside the great Tristan Palma, partly recorded in Jamaica with Dean Fraser. His characteristic Marley-esque voice has made him one of the top European performing artistes.

On the back of shows with the Friendly Fire Band, Michael Prophet is passing the studio ahead of his show at the Hare and Hounds for Simmer Down Lounge.

The second 12″ EP by Friendly Fire Band features Lion Art, Cheshire Cat, and a steppers remix by Fogata Sounds, and is announced to hit the streets on the 6th November.

The wicked have been running away since Lion Art’s acclaimed “Run Away” music video, and are marked for two more licks on Friendly Fire Band’s live roots instrumental.

The first comes from UK legend Cheshire Cat, famous for his work with Leftfield and Luv Injection, who excells lyrically on the DJ cut, Wicked Babylon, a spacious track showcasing his conscious flow.

The second hit comes from Paris based duo Fogata Sounds, who remixed Lion Art’s cut in a digital steppas style, and this is the first ever release remixed live on Tangible Display’s touch screen interface – an avant garde piece of technology which is still in development.

Finally both the original and remix dubs are on the EP!

Reggae City is back for 2015 for the next instalment of crucial roots and Reggae inspired music from Birmingham and beyond.

This year Reggae City is reaching new heights, welcoming the legendary Macka B and the Roots Ragga Band to headline the live stage, with further support from the Kayanites, The Equators and Lobster with a special closing set from Aries and MC David Boomah.

Hosting the second room we have the mighty Creative Hertz Sound System and Positive Vibration crew. One of the hottest up and coming sounds in town and one of the most heavy weight custom built systems in the UK. Playing on this huge sound system we have Sticky Joe and Long Fingah, Birminghams own Goosensei and so many more great acts.

Expect to hear everything from Roots Rock Reggae, Ska and Dub to Jungle, dancehall and dubstep!

As well as the music, there will be Caribbean food, drink and merch stalls, walkabout entertainment and a Jamaican dominoes tournament.

New Release: Tomlin Mystic : Live As One

Out today, Tomlin Mystic and Friendly Fire Band’s Live as One is a unity manifesto in post-election UK, bringing back the original foundation roots style of the 70s and early 80s. The riddim is played entirely live by the Friendly Fire Band and mixed by Robidon, and Tomlin Mystics lamenting voice points out the similarities of our current government with the slave masters of the past. The message is clear, despite the efforts of the powers that be to divide and conquer the people, the only way out of these difficult times is to Live As One.
